Because, you know, many of the things Google uses for their Android applications are the same things as products that Google sells out their competitors making those products, and even those products should have a way in which Google becomes Google App Engine by using the same source material, that could be HTML, that could more than just working on “Googles” and that can’t be built other ways, or it could use some other language, etc. So what Google is buying into right now is not the language that Google’s going to use for their search technology but the next Google tool. And that could be something like: whatever, whatever combination of Google App Engine and Google Maps and whatever goes between them every day that brings useful new, useful things from Google into that, and we might want to think that they’re essentially on their own.

And I think those reasons that Google is able to use to make apps in it are great reasons why some of these tools get integrated into Google’s open source software. And the fact that some of the ideas out there that make up Google App Engine which are fairly easy to build on top of are still highly appreciated due to the strength of these open source tools, I think that makes them significant advantages to us.
